Technical, organizational and legal issues currently limit the ability of US immunization information systems (IIS) to serve as a sole source of historical and forecasted immunizations across populations. We present an approach for improving the completeness and accuracy of historical immunization data in an electronic health record, by augmenting local and IIS information with non-traditional immunization data sources, and reducing manual reconciliation of external immunizations.
Learning Objective 1: Understand limitations of current US IIS deployments which restrict their use in their intended roles.
Learning Objective 2: Learn about several pragmatic solutions to improving EHR immunization data completeness and accuracy.
