Clinical informatics is part of the practice of medicine today. There is need for health professionals within informatics, yet it’s difficult to financially justify taking providers from revenue generating patient care for informatics activities. Geisinger’s informatics fellowship created a framework for demonstrating the value of informaticians, including financial and non-financial categories, and applied the model to fellow activities. We document significant value provided by fellows and believe this framework can be applied to provider informaticians.

Learning Objective 1: Understand the four major categories of value that provider informaticians can utilize to document value for a given informatics activity.

Learning Objective 2: Calculate the "Return on Investment" for a provider informatician utilizing the provided framework.
