Background: We examined combining claims data with electronic health record (EHR) data for obesity. Methods: We merged claims and EHR data based on Subscriber ID. Obesity in the EHR was based on BMI calculated from the latest height and weight and in claims from ICD codes. Results: The kappa statistic was 0.072 (95%CI:0.055, 0.088); claims added 2 more obesity patients (0.2%). Conclusion: There is additive value in data from claims and EHR for obesity diagnoses.
Learning Objective 1: To understand the degree of concordance between claims data and electronic health record data
Learning Objective 2: To understand the additive value of merging EHR and claims data for the diagnosis of obesity
