Healthcare information technology (HIT) can improve the efficiency of nurses by reducing the time they spend on documentation; however, this is not true for all types of HIT systems. We conducted a systematic review to identify which type of systems improved nursing efficiency, how much these systems improved nurses’ efficiency by, and proposed reasons for why some systems may have not brought about improvements.

Learning Objective 1: After participating in this session, the learner should be better able to:
- Understand the impact of different HIT interventions on nursing efficiency
- Understand some of the reasons behind the different impacts on efficiency
