Description

Provider friendly terms are crafted to accelerate clinical data entry at the point of care. However, inaccurate designation of such terms due to human errors or ambiguous meaning of the intended concept can cause incorrect patient order entry. We hypothesized by evaluating LOINC parts and their display names in the EMR system, to the actual tests ordered in the laboratory database, we would be able to identify semantic errors associated with variations in LOINC parts.

Learning Objective 1: Understand the current issues in assigning provider friendly laboratory names, mapped to the LOINC codes, in the electronic health records systems
